Edith (Eddie) Martinez :: Played by Kath Nyborg

With a love of fairness underlying her love for justice, Detroit born and raised, Edith Martinez has had a hard time finding either during her time with the Old Boys Network in the Detroit Police Department. Still, she's managed to obtain a rep as a capable detective and companionable co-worker, and she closes the majority of her cases ... which in any division is a solid asset. Eddie has recently been assigned as a sub to the Special Crimes Division, the hole-in-the-wall, underfunded crapshoot that has to deal with crimes relating to or caused by the city's resident supernatural population.


Despite her partner's dislike of her work, she and Jon Rawley have been together for at least a decade, though neither of them has talked of marriage or children for at least the last four or five. Both raised Catholic, both have the guilt of not being permanently tied at the hip ... but guilt hasn't changed the fact that they haven't yet tied any knots.

Jonathan Rawley ::

Lawyer specializing in Urban Development (civic issues, zoning, city planning, etc.) Gym rat. A touch old school, a bit chauvinistic, but man enough to support the love of his life in her chosen career... even though he isn't thrilled with the risks entailed. Pushed hard enough, he will run, but he has always come back.

Angela Been ::

The resident Vampire in the SC unit, Angela has been with the DPD longer than Eddie's entire career. With a reputation for being cool to the point of frosty and as hard as a diamond, she is an uncomfortable but entirely competent partner on the job.

Ben Louiston :: Played by Simone T. Cooper

Louisiana born in the 1790's to Catholic parents, Ben Louiston served from age 15 in the new U.S. Navy, and fought on the east coast in the War of 1812 and again under Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans. He married a Creole woman during that campaign and fathered two daughters a year apart. Four years later he disappeared from the site of a rescue operation for a burning riverboat...

SC::D is Eddie's story, but sometimes the people you meet have stories, too.

Tawaret::

Wife of Apep, She who brings Fear to Daylight. Fed on the terror and pain she caused, hers was a strained alliance at best in the beginning....

This iteration of Tawaret was reborn in Book 2

Martine (Mack) Burdon ::

Ex-Marine who mustered out in Detroit and made it his home. A long-time veteran of the force, Mack is Department Head for Special Crimes Division. He has nicknames for the officers under him, earned under fire, almost like pilot call-signs.

Donald Brown ::

Criminal Justice major with a minor in Computer Science, Don is the squad's resident geek. He maintains the technical equipment and databases, as well as being a very competent officer. Mack calls him 'Young Batman' for all the devices he brings to work.

Shawna-Mae Porter::

Masters student in Archaeology at Wayne State University, originally from rural Iowa, where her family still lives. Swept up in the Nameless One's wake.

Reginald (Rex) Blanks ::

Grifter, standover man, gang member, werewolf. Rex is also a good man, loyal to his family, and keeps to his own code of honor as best he can.

Atuscan ::

Councilor of the Midwest Council of Vampires. Truly ancient, and seems to become more demonic with each passing year. Soft-spoken but commanding; a rare voice of reason among beings that consume human life.
